The Academy Core Program is offered on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, a schedule that has produced excellent educational outcomes at the Academy and other innovative schools. For families who need five days of campus-based supervision or the support of Academy faculty in assuring a child's success in the Core Program, the Monday-Friday Program is in session from 8:15 - 3:45.
Generally, students from any schooling background quickly adapt their learning skills and attitudes to the heightened productivity of the Core Program schedule. Nonetheless, the Academy curriculum aims to cover at least the scope and depth of full time studies at five-day college-preparatory schools. Consistent and complete class preparation is essential to that goal. With effectual parental support, that preparation can be done at home on Mondays and Fridays in order to limit costs or provide flexibility for other priorities.
In evaluating the level of parental support that is needed, families should consult the homework expectations noted on page 9 in the
Community Handbook. All are scaled to be
easily accomplished within the span of regular school-day hours on Mondays and Fridays so that evenings and weekends can be homework-free but for the practice and review needs of math and foreign language study. Note, however, that Upper School students should expect to spend most of the typical school-day hours on Mondays and Fridays (or their equivalent) on assigned academic work.
Students who use the Monday-Friday Program are guided by Academy faculty in developing time management and study skills as they complete all or most of their Core Program class preparation; students learn to plan their work and work their plan. Homework sessions are broken up with exploratory or creative components of Core Program subjects, as well as games with unequivocal educational content and time for pleasure reading.
Because the Monday - Friday Program does not involve assessment, it is offered at lower cost and can be used in half-day segments as needed. For more information, see
Tuition.
