LCA Beyond the Classroom
The Academy campus is small – by design. Our goals of mentorship and teaching each student as an individual for optimal achievement are perhaps impossible to sustain on an institutional scale. But, the Academy as a learning space has no such boundaries. During the inaugural year, Academy students and their teachers:
~ attended StageOne's production of The Secret Garden;
~ participated in a day-long conference on The Humane Vision of Wendell Berry at the Seelbach Hotel;
~ traveled to the Indianapolis Museum of Art to see Roman Art from the Louvre;
~ saw the touring Great Russian Nutcracker with an LCA classmate in the chorus;
~ saw Clara's Dream by the U of L School of Ballet with classmates in the cast;
~ spent a morning with the KY Shakespeare Festival learning how to stage The Tempest;
~ enjoyed an evening at the Science Center seeing the new IMAX film, Mummies, and hearing a
lecture by its featured Egyptologist, Dr. Bob Brier;
~ attended the Anchorage Childrens Theatre's production of The Pirates of Penzance to see a
classmate in a leading role;
~ traveled to Lexington for the weekend-long convention of the Kentucky Junior Classical League; and
~ viewed Medieval and Renaissance Treasures at the Speed Museum.
As a small school, we can coordinate events with ease and at low cost, an advantage we exploit to the fullest!

Plays are extra engaging when a classmate is in the cast . . .
Our youngest student at the Bob Brier outing consulted 'Mr. Mummy' about homemade natron, with plans to mummify a chicken cutlet . . .
